A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Ordinary bank clerk Joseph K wakes one morning to learn that he is under arrest. For what crime? No one will tell him. A trial date is set, but the courtroom is nearly impossible to find. Those who offer counsel give confusing and contradictory advice. While K’s quest to unravel the mystery brings no clarity or justice, it does introduce us to an array of strange and intriguing characters and the vast, indifferent legal bureaucracy they serve.
Michael Marrone’s stage adaptation makes clever use of the novel’s dreamlike nature to condense the story into two thrilling acts. Directors looking to bring to life the dark humor and psychological depth of Kafka’s masterpiece need look no further.
