Lighthouse Plays was founded to address a recurring challenge for theater directors and educators: finding fresh, new theatrical adaptations of classic stories.
We wanted to create scripts that captured the brilliance of the source material, while also recognizing that our cultural traditions have evolved since the original work was written. We were committed to preserving the rich humor, heart, and tragedy of these stories but in a structure that could appeal and entertain modern audiences.
The result has been a library of plays that feature innovative, dynamic storytelling and are uniquely suited for a variety of ages.
Every script in our library premiered at a Chicago area theater company, and we’ve been excited to partner with organizations across the world to produce our plays on their stages. With our expanding play library, we believe Lighthouse is a one-stop-shop for directors and educators who enjoy bringing classic works of literature to life on stage.
