Most scripts written for young people are overly simplistic, bordering on patronizing. The stakes are minimal, the characters lack depth, and the presumption is clear — kids have such a limited acting ability that the scripts need to be foolproof.

At Lighthouse Plays, we think about kids differently. We believe that with the right material and the right direction, kids can be held to a higher standard and produce theater that has a powerful effect on audiences.

Our team of writers combine for over thirty years of experience making theater with young people. Every script in our library premiered at a Chicago area theater company, and we’ve been excited to partner with organizations across the world to produce our plays on their stages. With our expanding play library, we believe Lighthouse is a one-stop-shop for directors and educators who share our standards for excellence in theater for young people.
